ABOUT US

Inner Light Recovery is a Holistic Nursing Practice. Inner Light Recovery was established in response to the growing need to address client wellness from a mind, body, spirit approach. Inner Light Recovery’s mission is to facilitate the client’s healing process. The universe and nature seek balance. Nature wants us to be well. Complementary medicine focuses on the body’s natural modes of healing. Recognizing one’s own Inner Light empowers the client to employ these alternative methods for recovery of balance. A place where East meets West, Inner Light Recovery will consult with a client’s primary care provider when requested by the client.

Inner Light Recovery was established by Margaret Brown BSN, MSN, NP-BC, RM. Margaret received her Bachelor of Science degree from University of Delaware in 1987 and began working in the acute care setting at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. Inspired to help patients prevent acute illnesses, she obtained her Adult Nurse Practitioner Master of Science degree from University of Pennsylvania in 1991. Her primary care practice included providing health care for the homeless, private practice, and caring for clients in a Primary Care Health Center. Her clients faced many complex medical and psychosocial challenges. During this time, she was also employed as a clinical lecturer in the Graduate School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2000, Margaret began exploring alternative methods to meet the needs of her clients. Impressed by the impact of energetic healing, Margaret obtained her Master’s Training in Reiki. Witnessing the unique healing power that alternative interventions provided, Margaret created Inner Light Recovery, a Holistic Nursing Practice in January of 2008.

Margaret is a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association, The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the Philadelphia Area Nurse Practitioner Group, and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.

HOLISTIC NURSING
Holistic Nursing is nursing that acknowledges mind, body, spirit principles and integrates them into evidence based practice. Holistic Nursing seeks to balance “Eastern” and “Western” medical interventions. The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) was founded in 1981. In December of 2006, the American Nurses Association (ANA) officially recognized Holistic Nursing. In January of 2007, the Holistic Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice was co-published by the AHNA and the ANA. Please visit www.ahna.org to learn more about the American Holistic Nurse Association.

REIKI
Reiki is a type of energy healing thousands of years old. Reiki means “Universal Life Force” in Japanese. Reiki is used around the world to treat many health care needs. Margaret Brown is a Usui Shiki Ryoho Master. Originally learning Reiki to care for herself and family, Margaret began incorporating it into client care due to the remarkable results she was witnessing. Reiki sessions involve the practitioner using healing touch by placing her hands on the client. Unlike a massage, the client is fully clothed. Energy healing is used as routine care in many countries and is growing in the United States. The National Institutes for Health established the National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine in 1998 to fund research regarding complimentary alternative therapies.
